Flower Cake

So I decided to make a cake to take to a church "Meet and Greet". I just had issue after issue with this cake. I designed the cake and thought that it would be easy to make. Oh my! That was not the case. Luckily, I stayed calm (if you know me at all, you will know that I'm not really a calm person) and just re-planned the cake (twice). But it turned out great! All of a sudden I just had a simple, little one-tier flower cake (it was supposed to be a stacked two-tier cake). The bottom tier was supposed to have stripes and the top tier was supposed to be the flower part.

Oh yes...and it was supposed to be pink, black, and white. Looks like the only color that stayed the same was the white. =o) The black turned out gray and the pink magically turned yellow. Seriously, I've decided in the future that I will be buying pre-colored fondant called "Satin Ice" or "Choco-Pan". And at some point, I'm going to make Marshmellow Fondant (otherwise known as MMF). So.. as always lots of cakes to make and decorate!!

Daffodil Cake

So I decided to make a little daffodil cake. The cake is a buttercake with raspberry filling and lemon frosting. It's covered in fondant and decorated with little fondant daffodils. =o) It was fun to make!!

August 2008 - LadyBug Cake

Linda Clemmer designed this little ladybug cake too. I think it is soooo cute! And it came out pretty good! I was pleasantly surprised! (I'm not really big on sheet cakes)!

Mom's 50th Surprise Birthday Party

So my sister, Jenn, and I decided to have a surprise birthday party for my mom since she is turning 50 this year! We sent out invitations and did all sorts of planning etc, and it worked out great. She had noooo idea. She even cried when she realized how much work everyone had done and that everyone was there for her. It was really sweet! Anyway, so of course I had to make the cake. There are definitely some things that I would change about it...but everyone seemed to love the decorations...but better yet...they thought the cake was delicious! I finally found a GREAT recipe! Whoo hoo!! (And yes...it's not your imagination..it's leaning slightly!!

Course 3, week 1 and 2

I went straight into course 3. (No waiting this time around). The first week we learned several new ways to decorate such as cornelli lace, soto's, and ribbons. AND we started using a little bit of fondant. Exciting stuff!!

The second week we made a fondant cake. I think it turned out really well! I'll have to practice and make more of course. I have to make lots and lots of roses for our final graduation cake. I'm a little freaked out by it...but I'll get it worked out.

Anyway, here is the cake and the rose!

July 4th Cake

Every year, my mom's family has a big family reunion at Grayson Lake. We've been going to this since I was a baby and I have a great time every year! This year I decided I was going to take a 3-tier cake to Grayson.

So here's how it happened. I baked the cakes on Wednesday. I torted and iced the cakes on Thursday and then put them in individual baking boxes. On Friday, we drove home to WV. That evening, I decorated and tiered the cake at Chad's parents house and then put the cake in a big box. It was ready to go.

On Saturday, the cake fell a little bit while travelling....but I have to say that I think it did pretty well. I had to put a couple of finishing touches on the cake while I was setting it up. Not bad for a first try -- and now I've got some experience in transporting cakes... (it travelled about 7 hours altogether in the car).
